Alta Badia: the legends
Throughout the years the wonderful mountains
of the Dolomites have stimulated the imagination of the local people as
well as that of the visitors
The tell tales, passed over during the centuries, are the origin of a
magic world inhabited by princesses and witches, dragons and brave heroes.
Ancient stories, passed over from father to son, linked to the mountains,
the lakes, and the animals of the woods...the small and great mysteries
of nature.
These stories and legends, which keep company to the children while they're
falling asleep, or gladden the evening in front of the hearth, are collected
in books that can be purchased in bookstores and newsstand of the Alta
Badia.
These are short resumes of the most popular and fascinating legends of
these mountains
The pale mountains
Once upon a time the mountains of the Dolomites were dark, just like primitive
rocks. The son of a king, a young man who spent his time staring at the
moon with eyes filled with nostalgia, inhabited this world.
The princess Dolasilla
Once upon a time there was a rich and merry kingdom, the kingdom of the
Fanes. The Fanes fortunes started with the king's daughter, the beautiful
Dolasilla, a brave and undefeatable warrior. With her armour and her magic
arrows she could face and defeat any enemy.
The "Gran Bracun"
Many years ago, a ferocious dragon lived at the foot of the Sasso S Croce.
He devoured both human beings and animals. The peasants were terrorized
by the beast and called for help the brave warrior Francësch Wilhelm
de Brach called the "Gran Bracun". With his armour on, the brave
horseman faced and defeated the ravenous dragon.
