Val Badia has a very peculiar trait, something,
which makes the valley different from all the others. The language spoken
is a very ancient one: the Ladin. The origin of the language Thanks to the founding of Sotciastel, near S.Leonardo/Pedraces, researchers can maintain that in Alta Badia inhabited centres existed already during the Bronze Age. It is not really clear who were the first inhabitants of the valley, even though they were probably of Celtic origin. With the inclusion of the Alpine regions in the Roman empire the population started to speak the Latin of the conqueror, developing in time a language, similar to Italian, French and Spanish: the Ladin. Its language, but above all by its ancient and proud agricultural-artisan culture, characterizes the Ladin population. One of its main features is respect and attention for the environment, also by adopting a specific architectural style, which harmonizes with the landscape. Symbiosis between man and nature is evident also in the hand made product, in the creation of unique and original products from what soil offers. Menu: HomePage
